Opened in 1919, Teton Valley Lodge is perhaps the oldest family run fly fishing lodge in existence. Matt and Brian Berry are the fourth generation of Berry’s to handle the reins of the entire TVL operation. From taking the bookings, to organizing the staff, to spending a minimum of four days a week on the water guiding… these guys simply work too hard!

Teton Valley Lodge is a wonderful facility with an enormous amount of history fishing and guiding one of the most renowned trout fisheries on earth. It is an efficient lodge that really knows how to fish their clients hard. Unless you specify it, there is no such thing as the “9:00 – 4:00” day on the water with TVL. Their guides are trained and expected to fish their guests hard when the fishing is good, and most often guests do not return to the lodge till 8:00 or 9:00PM. Located on the banks of the Teton River near Driggs, Idaho, TVL is only thirty five miles over the majestic Teton range from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The ownership of TVL hangs their hat on having the best guides in the business, and offering some of the greatest and most consistent dry fly fishing out West. If you are looking for an intensive trout trip out west with some of the best guides in the business, TVL is something to strongly consider.


Teton Valley Lodge does 95% of their guided fishing on the Henry’s Fork, the South Fork, and the Teton Rivers. From the giant salmon fly hatch in late May, to their ‘cast and blast’ program starting in September, the diversity if the TVL operation and the rivers they fish has consistently produced excellent fishing reports from our guests since we started doing business with them two seasons ago. We have been very impressed. These guys simply find big trout!

They fish the different sections throughout the sixty miles on the South Fork from the Palisades dam down to the confluence of the Henry’s Fork, and have five different floats they rotate depending upon conditions. This is BIG brown trout country with consistent dry fly fishing all season long. From early season salmon flies and PMD hatches to the grasshoppers in August, the South Fork of the Snake produces some of the biggest trout each summer. Like most of the rivers fished with Teton Valley Lodge, there is not much wading opportunity on the South Fork, as it is a large river usually running an average of 10,000 cfs. However, the South Fork does have a number of braided sections and a different character to each float. All and all, the South Fork is one of the most consistent fisheries all season and a must for any guest at TVL.

The Henry’s Fork has completely rebounded from the recent drought stricken years. According to the Berry’s, the 2007 season was the best fishing seen on the Henry’s Fork in over fifteen years. The Henry’s Fork is really three rivers in one. From the higher spring creek sections with finicky trout to the canyon sections, or the wide rifflely lower river, the Henry’s Fork offers a little of something for everyone. It is a very consistent dry fly fishery starting with the Salmon flies in late May / early June, and is an unbelievable rainbow, cutthroat, and ‘cutbow’ river. The Henry’s Fork is to big Rainbows what the South Fork is for big browns…

The lodge is located on the banks of the versatile Teton River. From the upper stretches to a fabled trip down the wild Teton Narrows, TVL has been fishing this amazing river for ninety years. The trout population in the Teton is about half and half rainbows and cutthroats, as well as the occasional brook trout. Native cutthroats that average around sixteen inches and monster rainbows that average over 20 inches (including a 29 inch fish landed last season) are what make the river so special. Extremely prolific mayfly hatches overwhelm the river all season long except when hopper season takes over in August. Similar to the South Fork and the Henry’s Fork, the Teton is an epic dry fly river, and one of the most consistent quality fishing venues in the West.

Fishing with TVL is predominantly a float fishing affair, and if you are strictly partial to wade fishing, this is a destination that is probably not for you. If you are interested in seeing miles and miles of different water and country utilizing the comfort and flexibility of a fiberglass drift boat, cataraft, or self bailing inflatable, you will love fishing with Teton Valley Lodge.


The lodge facilities are situated on the bank of the Teton River with wonderful views of the Teton Mountain range visible from every room. Although the historical original buildings on the property are close to one hundred years old, the lodge’s riverside accommodations are constantly getting updated to ensure all guests are comfortable. With capacity of thirty guests with a full house, guests at the lodge stay in one of over a dozen individual cabins located on various sites throughout the property. The spread out nature of each cabin ensures privacy for all guests and are tastefully decorated with traditional log cabin décor. Each cabin also has its own rooming configurations including one, two, and three bedroom options to accommodate different group sizes and dynamics.

Beverages including bottled water, soft drinks and beer are provided and included in the trip cost. Wine is sold at the lodge by the glass, however the lodge does not provide hard liquor. However, guests are welcome and encouraged to bring their own libations if desired.


Guests fly into either Idaho Falls or Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which are serviced by various major carriers. Jackson Hole is thirty-five miles to the east of the lodge, while Idaho Falls is seventy miles to the east. The majority of our guests travel commercially to Jackson Hole and rent a car or have the lodge provide ground transportation ($150 roundtrip per couple). Nearby Driggs, Idaho has a reliable airport that will accommodate most private aircraft (7000’ strip).


Day 1
Guests at Teton Valley Lodge travel to Idaho Falls via Salt Lake City with Delta Airlines, or preferably into Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From Jackson or Idaho Falls, anglers progress to the lodge with a rental vehicle or the lodge can provide round-trip ground transportation upon request.

Day 2-?
Depart for fishing on the Henry’s Fork, South Fork of the Snake, or Teton River after breakfast. Anglers are usually on the water by 9:00AM and don’t return to the lodge until 7:30 – 8:00PM. Dinner is traditionally served at 9:00PM.

Departure Day
Following breakfast, and depending on what time your flight departs, guests return to the airport in Jackson Hole or Idaho Falls.


Teton Valley Lodge is open from the last week of May through the first week in October. Depending on river conditions and spring snowpack, there is really no “best” time to visit TVL. The early season in late May and early June is a blast for anglers looking to experience the giant salmon fly hatches, while mid-summer sees prolific PMD, golden stone, green drake, and a myriad of other mayfly and caddis hatches offering great dry-fly fishing in most years. August and early September are traditionally months to experience great terrestrial fishing with grasshoppers, ants, and other highly visible dries. It is always best to inquire about the projected water conditions for any given season; however TVL has enough diverse fishing opportunity to accommodate anglers all season long.


Teton Valley Lodge is definitely a fishing exclusive destination. However, many of our angling guests will drop the non-angling spouse or companion in Jackson Hole (35 miles) and head to the lodge for a few days of fishing.

Teton Valley Lodge requires a non-refundable $500 per boat / day deposit is required to secure all reservations. Final balance is due 30 days prior to departure. Cancellations made outside of thirty days can be rescheduled to another available date during the season. Within thirty days of departure, all funds are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Receipt of deposit and/or final payment is acknowledgement that registrant has read and accepts the cancellation/refund and responsibility clauses.
