Happiest hour: the world famous Palometa Club margarita
Author: Neil Turner
A shady place for Sunny people
Thousands of Permit anglers, from around the globe, can agree that one of the “best margaritas” in the world is none other than a cold one on the rocks at the Palometa club. If we are being honest, any margarita in Mexico will do the trick, especially after 8 hours in the sun. However, as many know, and others are soon to find out, the post-fishing, Palometa Club Margarita hits different.
Over the years, an organic tradition of gathering post fishing at Kaye’s bar has become a daily ritual. This cozy watering hole sits tucked away in the sandy yard of the club, just steps from the beach. It was named in honor Kaye Cameron, wife of Dick Cameron who were the original owners and managers of the club. These days you are greeted by Francois or Dasha with a smile and a cool towel, and two pitchers of Margaritas ready to wash down the day.
The Cure
Whether it be a drink of celebration or to ease the pain about the one that got away, one thing is for sure, this concoction delivers for either scenario. 10 ounces of bliss await in your Yeti complete with a perfectly balanced tajin lined rim. This quaint beach bar, surrounded by palm trees and crystal blue water, is personally my favorite bar in the world. If walls could talk, the tales of tails spoken here are legendary, including permit caught and the ones that just wouldn’t eat.
If your mind begins to wander around 4:30pm when you are in the states, wondering how the day went for anglers at the club, you’re not alone. It’s everyone's favorite Happy Hour, it’s a toast to swapping stories and celebration for landed fish. If you are lucky you’ll raise a flag, guaranteed to spark another round at Kaye’s bar. If you know, you know, and if you don’t, it’s time to find out.
