Local waters
Fly fishing is not only possible but productive in North Texas. Our head guide, Sean Polk, has spent the past twenty years fishing this water and knows where the fish are.
A diversity of species and a short commute makes these trips right for the beginner cutting their teeth, the angler who does not get out as much as they would like, and the die-hard who wants to master their local fishery.
The trips
Which one is right depends mostly on the month you are free and the fish you want.
January – April, prime in March
The Brazos above Lake Whitney, launching at Hamm Creek Park near Rio Vista. A boat trip with wading opportunities — bring waders, especially in cool weather.
Most of the fishing involves a 20–30 minute boat ride, so full days are the better option. We highly recommend weekdays to avoid crowds.
March – October, some winter on weather
Over 100 private bass lakes in partnership with Private Waters Fishing, more than half within 90 miles of downtown Dallas. Every lake is surveyed and managed for bass, from 8 to 60 acres.
Each booking guarantees we are the only group on the lake — you will not see another angler all day. A few top-tier lakes carry an additional rod fee.
July – September
A multispecies pursuit on Lake Whitney. We drive the lake looking for schooling stripers on topwater — the action is fast and can last for hours.
We can also spend time on the flats casting to carp and other species.
Lakes chosen by species and time of year
North Texas is home to some fantastic public water. If you want bigger lakes and more variety of species, this is the trip. Lakes are generally within two hours of Dallas.
Bass trips are generally east of Dallas on Lake Fork, Athens or Holbrook, smallmouth and stripers are on Texoma, and pickerel are on Hawkins.
Terms & conditions
All trips are based on one to two anglers and include the necessary equipment — rods, reels and flies. Spinning gear is available on request, and you are welcome to bring your own.
A half day is a four hour adventure and includes ice and water. A full day is eight hours and includes lunch, ice and water.
A 50% deposit is due at booking to secure a date. Trips are payable by check, cash, Venmo or Zelle, with the balance due on the day.
Full refund of the deposit 30+ days out, 50% between 14 and 30 days, none inside 14 days. Weather cancellations move to another date; trips cancelled by the guide are refunded in full.
