Situated on 80 acres of private land overlooking the Mulchatna River, Alaskan Remote Adventures provides anglers with a remote, uncrowded experience but with all the comforts of home. Owner, operator, host, and lodge chef Ryan Kocherhans delivers guests a program with diversity of fishing, a relaxed schedule, a family-feel environment, and a true sense of being in the middle of nowhere. It is highly unlikely that you will encounter another boat on the river all week.
Because Alaskan Remote Adventures has no competition in its location, guests don’t have to race to get on the water at the crack of dawn (unless they want to!). Enjoy a relaxing breakfast, get dressed for the day, and jump in the jetboat with your guide when you’re ready … and spend the whole day exploring different sections and tributaries of the vibrant Mulchatna River. Alaskan Remote Adventures also offers two programs for guests - spend the whole week at the lodge, or split your trip with a float and lodge combo if you’re feeling adventurous. While not part of their regularly scheduled programming, flyouts can be added to your week for an additional cost.

From dry fly fishing lighter tackle for Grayling, to swinging spey rods for King Salmon, Alaskan Remote Adventures offers total diversity in not just their target species but also their fishing techniques depending on the seasonality. And if you’re more comfortable with conventional tackle, guides can set you up with spinning gear instead of fly fishing gear. Jet boats are the primary mode of transportation when fishing their home river and its tributaries, and guest can expect to spot hop, fish from the boat, or jump out and wade fish. For guests interested in exploring other fishing locations not accessible by jet boat, flyouts can be arranged for an additional fee.
Their lodge/float combo is also an adventure. Guests opting for this combo program can start their week floating and fishing down the river, spending the first few nights dining by a campfire and sleeping along the banks of the river. The latter half of the week is spent enjoying the comforts of the lodge and accessing a variety of fishing options by jetboat.

The lodge’s remoteness does not sacrifice the comforts and luxuries guests desire after an adventurous day of fishing. Perched on a bluff overlooking the entire Mulchatna River, guests enjoy the main building where meals are served, a bar room, and a lounge area. The double-occupancy rooms have comfortable beds and private bathrooms. The lodge deck provides incredible views of the river and, along with the courtyard and fire pit, is a perfect spot to relax and socialize with fellow guests and staff. Guests can also spend time by the water in front of the lodge - fishing, swimming when the weather is nice, or just hanging out.
The lodge manager, Ryan Kocherhans, is not only a passionate angler and excellent host, but also a skilled chef. Guests enjoy delicious meals featuring dishes like prime rib, crab, fresh salmon, and ribs from the comfort of the dining room.
Although fishing is the predominant activity at Alaskan Remote Adventures, we encourage non-angling companions to visit the lodge as well. Perhaps the best way to see Alaska’s beautiful countryside, wildlife, and wilderness is on a remote fishing trip. Although daily activities are oriented around fishing, guests can make the day as relaxed as they would like, take a hike, enjoy the views from the deck while reading a book, or - if it's warm enough - take a swim in front of the lodge. Alaskan Remote Adventures is by no means a pretentious “fly fishing only” program. The staff is known for making guests feel like family.

Tailwaters Travel must adhere to the cancellation policies of the guides, outfitters and lodges which it represents. Alaskan Remote Adventures’ policy follows: A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to secure all reservations. Final balance is due 60 days prior to departure. All deposits are non-refundable unless clients can be replaced. No credits or refunds are given for fishing time lost due to inclement weather. Refunds of deposits/payments made on credit cards will be charged a 3.5% service charge to fully compensate Tailwaters Travel for all bank charges incurred. Receipt of deposit and/or final payment is acknowledgement that registrant has read and accepts the cancellation, refund and responsibility clauses.

The first leg of the trip is accomplished by guests reaching Anchorage, Alaska, which is serviced by numerous commercial carriers. Guests typically fly to Anchorage and overnight in town at a hotel, before continuing on to Iliamna the following morning.
REGIONAL FLIGHT TO / FROM ILIAMNA & ANCHORAGE
On arrival day, guests fly from Anchorage into Iliamna on a charter flight arranged by the lodge. Upon landing in Iliamna, guests are met by lodge staff at the airport and shuttled to the floatplane loading area. After a 40 minute float plane flight, guests land on the Mulchatna River at the doorstep of the lodge. If guests opt for the lodge/float combo, guests gear up in Iliamna and head directly to the river to begin their float.
Alaskan Remote Adventures is open from early June through September.
Choosing a date to fish anywhere in Western Alaska depends on which species you would like to target. Fishing is excellent all season, but the conditions and species available vary from month to month and may impact when you decide to visit. All months are excellent for viewing wildlife, and anglers often find themselves sharing the river or stream with multiple grizzly bears doing a little fishing of their own.
The annual salmon run plays a huge role in the productivity and style of fishing. Every summer, millions of Pacific Salmon return to their home streams to spawn and die, contributing in the natural cycle of life that maintains the health and productivity of the fishery.
