What Sun gloves means

Long days in saltwater put a steady dose of sun on the backs of your hands. Sun gloves are built to block UV and dry fast, usually with thin, stretchy fabric and a snug cuff so they do not bunch under a shirt sleeve.

Many are fingerless or have short fingers so you can tie knots, feel the line, and work a camera or push pole. Many have reinforced palms or textured panels to help with grip when the cork is wet or you are stripping line hard.

Why it matters on the water

Hand sunburn is common on flats trips because sunscreen rubs off fast with line handling, rinsing hands, and fish slime. Gloves give consistent coverage without needing to reapply to your hands.

They also reduce small cuts and abrasion from fly line, leader material, and fish handling. That matters in saltwater, where keeping your hands comfortable helps you keep casting accurately late in the day.
