Local Guided Trips

Tailwaters Fly Fishing Co.

LOCAL GUIDED TRIPS

We are excited to offer local guided trips that help you to get on the water without having to travel far from home. We’ve done the legwork and found some awesome spots close to Dallas. No matter your skill or experience level, we have the perfect trip for you. Our head guide, Sean Polk, has spent the past twenty years fishing North Texas and knows where to find the fish. If you’re looking to have a first fly fishing trip, or want to break out of the house for the day, our team of professional guides have a trip for you.

LOCAL WATERS

Fly fishing is not only possible, but productive, in North Texas!  Let Tailwaters reintroduce you to your home waters on a local guided trip.  With a diversity of species to target, and a short commute to the water, these trips are a perfect solution to the beginner fly angler looking to cut their teeth, the angler who doesn’t get on the water as much as they would like to, and the die-hard fly guy or gal who wants to master their local fisheries.

Brazos River Sand Bass Trips

½ day: $450
Full Day: $650

This trip runs January through April, with prime time in March. The trips are on the Brazos River above Lake Whitney. The ramp is located at Hamm Creek Park near Rio Vista. The primary species is sand bass, but striped bass, large mouth, and other species are also available.

This is a boat trip with wading opportunities. It’s highly recommended that anglers bring waders, especially during cool weather.

This trip provides some cool scenery and chances to fish a variety of spots. Most of the fishing involves a 20 - 30 minute boat ride, so full day trips are a better option.

We highly recommend weekday fishing to avoid crowds.

Private Waters Fishing Lakes

½ Day $550
Full Day $800

Tailwaters has teamed up with Private Waters Fishing to offer trips on over 100 private bass lakes. More than half of the lakes are within 90 miles of downtown Dallas. All the lakes are surveyed and managed for bass fishing. Lakes can range from 8-60 acres. Some lakes offer numbers, others offer size, and a few can offer both.

Each booking guarantees we will be the only group fishing the lake. We will not see another angler while fishing.

Prime fishing begins in March and will last through October. Some winter fishing may be available based on weather conditions.

Start times will vary, but plan on starting at sunrise. Half day trips end/start at noon.

A few top-tier lakes will require an additional rod fee.

Lake Whitney Summer Trip

½ Day $450
Full Day $650

This trip is a fun, multispecies pursuit on Lake Whitney. The trip runs July through September. The primary species is striped bass on topwaters. We typically drive the lake looking for schooling fish. The action is fast and can last for a few hours. We can also spend time on the numerous flats casting to carp and other species.
