Wind and bigger flies are where a standard flats leader starts to fold. The Umpqua Deceiver HD Bone-Permit Leader is a 12' fluorocarbon leader for bonefish and permit fishing, with an extra-long, heavy butt section to help turn over larger patterns. Umpqua also leans on the fluorocarbon here for abrasion resistance when fish find coral, shell, or rough bottom.

Across the sizes we stock, the change is straight strength: 12LB for lighter, more controlled presentations, then 16LB and 20LB when you want more protection and a little more authority in the cast. This is not the pick for small flies in dead-calm conditions.
