What it is

The Hareline AHREX SA220 is a saltwater streamer hook built on heavy wire with a straight eye and a black nickel finish. It’s finished with a chemically sharpened barb, so it’s meant to stick fish and hold up when you’re fishing bigger, tougher saltwater patterns.

What to tie with it

Use it for saltwater streamer and baitfish patterns where you’re building a full profile with bucktail, synthetic fibers, flash, and saddle hackle. It’s a good platform for stacking and flaring materials, tying in dumbbell eyes, and palmering or collaring to push water and shape the head.

Flies and the fish they're for

Clouser Minnows on this style of hook are a staple for redfish, stripers, snook, and other bait-chasing saltwater fish in flats, passes, and along jetties, and they also cross over to freshwater smallmouth. Lefty’s Deceiver is a go-to baitfish imitation for striped bass, bluefish, false albacore, and similar predators wherever they’re corralling bait. Flatwings are classic for stripers and other big-profile baitfish eaters, especially when you’re swinging or stripping them in current and along structure.

How it compares

Tyers reach for the SA220 as a more standard, versatile choice than many other saltwater-specific hooks, since it fits a wide range of streamer and baitfish styles rather than pushing you into one niche shape.
