What it is
The Dr Slick Jumbo Bobbin Threader is a bobbin-threading tool with a carbon fiber handle and a brass wire loop. It’s lightweight but rigid and durable, with a fine wire loop and an oversized handle that’s easy to hold at the bench.
What to tie with it
Use it to thread bobbin tubes and to pull tying thread cleanly through the tube without fighting the opening. The fine wire loop slips into tighter tubes, and the rigid handle helps guide it straight through.
Flies and the fish they're for
You’ll use a bobbin threader on everyday bench flies like a Zebra Midge for trout in tailwaters and spring creeks, where small, clean thread control matters. It’s just as handy for dry flies like a Parachute Adams and Elk Hair Caddis for trout on rivers and freestones, when you don’t want to weaken thread by hand-threading. On bigger streamers like a Clouser Minnow for smallmouth, striped bass, and redfish, it keeps you re-threading quickly when you’re swapping thread sizes or colors during a tying session.
How it compares
Compared with all-wire threaders, the carbon fiber handle makes this one more rigid, while all-wire styles are more likely to bend or break. Compared with threading by hand or mouth, it avoids adding moisture that can weaken thread.
