What it is

Hareline Adhesive Backed Furry Foam is a thin, dual-layer foam sheet with a furry foam face on one side and a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing on the other. It’s buoyant, lightweight, and durable, and the textured surface gives a little more “life” than plain craft foam. The adhesive sticks well for positioning pieces, but it still helps to secure it with thread wraps in a few places on the finished fly.

What to tie with it

Use it for precision-cut crab bodies, tail shapes, and clean two-tone layered bodies where you want consistent thickness without building bulk. It’s also handy for adhesive body wraps and other foam components you want to place exactly before you lash them down. Many tyers will cut, stick, then add thread tie-down points so the material can’t peel back after a few fish.

Flies and the fish they're for

This stuff shows up right where you’d expect: Bonefish Crab and Permit Crab patterns, fished on shallow saltwater flats for bonefish and permit. It’s also used in the Freddy-style crab body builds where layered foam and a furry surface help sell the silhouette when you’re crawling the fly along sand and turtle grass. On the freshwater side, it fits simple foam dry flies where the thin, buoyant sheet makes a small floater for trout on creeks and tailwaters.

How it compares

Compared to classic Furry Foam, this version just adds an adhesive backing, which makes stacking layers and setting body parts in place much easier before you tie them down. The tradeoff is the adhesive alone isn’t something to rely on for long-term durability without a few thread lash points.
