What it is

The Ahrex NS105 is a down-eye, barbless streamer hook with a fine-wire build and a black nickel finish. It has an inward-bent, chemically sharpened point and is made from springy steel that’s bend resistant and break resistant, which is handy when you want a lighter hook without giving up strength. In the water it’s a clean, light hook choice for flies that are meant to swim and breathe without being dragged down by heavy wire.

What to tie with it

Use it for small to mid-size streamers and light baitfish flies where you’re building slim bodies and mobile wing profiles on a down-eye hook. It also crosses over well to nymph patterns when you want a fine-wire, barbless hook for easier hook penetration and straightforward releases. The barbless, bent-in point design fits catch-and-release fishing where quick, controlled unhooking matters.

Flies and the fish they're for

This is a natural fit for light baitfish streamers you’d fish for trout and smallmouth in rivers, and for schoolie stripers in moving water when you want a lighter, more responsive fly. In the salt it’s also at home on small baitfish patterns for species like bonefish on flats, where barbless hooks are popular for quick releases. It’s the kind of hook you reach for when the fly needs to stay light and swim freely, whether you’re swinging or stripping in fresh water or working a small baitfish on the flats.

How it compares

Compared to the Ahrex NS110, the NS105 gives you the down eye and fine-wire feel for lighter streamers and nymphs, while the NS110’s straight eye and stronger wire are aimed at heavier saltwater patterns.
