What it is

The Hareline Ahrex PR354 is a long shank popping/skipping bug hook built around a pronounced bump on the shank to help you seat and secure a popper head. It has a chemically sharpened point that’s made to be extremely sharp, and the hook is durable for repeated fish and fly changes.

What to tie with it

Use it for poppers and other skipping-bug style topwaters where you’re gluing or attaching homemade or premade popper heads onto the hook. The long shank and that hump are especially suited to longer, slimmer popper-head styles, giving you a clean tie-in point behind the head for your tail and dressing.

Flies and the fish they're for

This hook is a natural fit for popper-style bass bugs tied for largemouth and smallmouth bass on ponds, lakes, and rivers where you’re working a loud surface fly around cover. It also crosses over well to warmwater and inshore-style topwaters when you’re building a longer-bodied, slimmer profile popper for fish that will eat a skittered or popped fly, like striped bass in rivers and surf.

How it compares

Compared with Kona BPH Big Popper Hooks, it uses a similar bump construction for holding a popper head in place, but the PR354 is offered in larger sizes.
