What it is

Alec Jackson’s Covert Nymph Hook is a nymph fly-tying hook with a slight curved shank and 2x strength wire for durability. It has a chemically sharpened point and a micro barb, and it comes with a crystal finish for a clean, subtle look in the water.

What to tie with it

Use it for classic nymph and larva profiles where you want the hook to hold up and track straight, including chironomids, stoneflies, mayflies, caddis, and damselfly patterns. It’s a good fit for thread-bodied ties as well as minimalist “no thread” style nymph builds where the hook and materials do the work and you want a strong, tidy foundation.

Flies and the fish they're for

This is the hook behind the Covert Nymph fly pattern and other compact nymphs fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters as well as in stillwaters under an indicator. In the common nymph sizes people reach for with this hook, it’s also right at home for chironomid-style midge work for trout in lakes and reservoirs, and for heavier stonefly and mayfly nymphs when you’re targeting bigger trout in faster current.

How it compares

The crystal finish is meant to be lower-visibility than many other hooks, with a more stealthy look while still keeping the point chemically sharpened and the wire 2x strong.
