What it is

Hareline Baitfish Emulator Flash is an edge-strung, thread-core wrap made from mylar-textured fibers. It winds like chenille but throws a lot of flash, and the fibers shed water quickly so it doesn’t stay soggy. Once wrapped, it gives you a stiff, supportive underbody with flowing fibers coming off the wrap.

What to tie with it

Use it as a wrap for streamer bodies and heads, either just up front to build a baitfish head or all the way down the shank to make a longer profile. It’s a natural fit for baitfish and crustacean patterns, and it also works as underbody support on articulated builds like a Game Changer. You can also use it as a collar, a wet-fly style wing, or as underwing flash to kick more light through the fly.

Flies and the fish they're for

In a Game Changer or Feather Game Changer, it’s a quick way to build flash and bulk into the underbody so the fly swims with a full baitfish silhouette for species like largemouth and smallmouth bass in lakes and rivers, and pike where they’re found. Those same articulated baitfish profiles also cross over to saltwater when you’re targeting predators that eat small baitfish, like striped bass in the surf, jetties, and rips. When you wrap it the length of the hook, it also lends itself to longer baitfish-style streamers that get fished for aggressive fish that key on moving forage.

How it compares

It’s in the same thread-core wrap family as Chocklett’s Filler Flash, but Filler Flash runs shorter and is a better match when you’re building smaller patterns.
