What it is

Hareline Big Fly Fiber is a synthetic fly-tying fiber built with a natural curl in the tips. The curled fibers bulk up to a big profile without adding much weight, and they resist soaking so they shed water easily. In the water those curls help the fly move with an erratic, baitfish-style wiggle.

What to tie with it

Use it to build large-profile streamer bodies and baitfish imitations by stacking and blending clumps into a tapered shape, then trimming to silhouette. It also makes strong, full tails on large-bodied flies, and it shines when you want a big predator-fly outline that still stays light and castable.

Flies and the fish they're for

This fiber gets used in very large minnow-style patterns tied in the EP Fiber family of baitfish flies, where the goal is a full-bodied profile with movement for predators. Fish those flies for pike and other toothy freshwater hunters in lakes and rivers, and the same baitfish shapes translate well to saltwater predators like striped bass and bluefish when you need a big meal with easy-shedding materials. Big, airy synthetic streamers like this are also a common choice for topwater-style baitfish patterns where staying light and pushing water matters.
