What it is

Boothe’s Barred Matrix Fly Fiber is a synthetic barred fly fiber with a clean, printed barring and an opaque look. It’s built to move with very little effort in the water, but it’s not overly flashy. The fibers are durable, so it holds up when you’re tying and when fish start chewing on it.

What to tie with it

Use it for streamer bodies and wings, or pick out a few strands for a single lateral line down each side of a baitfish pattern. It also blends well as an all-over body material when you’re stacking and mixing fibers for a full-profile predator fly. It fits both freshwater and saltwater builds, especially when you want movement and a barred look without adding much flash.

Flies and the fish they're for

This material shines in modern barred baitfish-style streamers and other predator patterns where you want a defined silhouette and a lifelike swim. Fished as baitfish and shrimp imitations, those patterns are commonly tied and thrown for largemouth and smallmouth bass in lakes and rivers, for trout in tailwaters and bigger freestone runs, and for saltwater species like redfish, snook, and striped bass in flats, bays, and inlets. It’s also a good pick when you want a clean barred lateral line on those same flies to help sell the “real bait” look without relying on heavy flash.

How it compares

Compared with Flashabou, it’s in the same synthetic-fiber lane but with a barred look and less flash. Against Hedron Lateral Scale it’s a similar construction concept, but this one brings the barred effect while Lateral Scale leans more toward a flash-first role; and versus Hareline Grizzly Half Saddle, this gives you a synthetic barred option rather than a feather with no flash.
