What it is
Hareline Brite Blend is a synthetic flash dubbing made from synthetic fibres mixed with lightweight flash. It has a buggy texture with plenty of light reflection, but it stays soft in the hand and is easy to apply. It also picks out cleanly, so you can rough it up for legs, gills, or a fuller profile.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you’d reach for a flashy dubbing on subsurface patterns: tight bodies on nymphs, emergers, and caddis larvae, or as a thorax that you can pick out for extra life. It also works well dubbed and brushed on wet flies and streamers when you want a buggy, reflective body without getting stiff. For bigger flies like salmon, steelhead, and saltwater bugs, it’s a good option when you want flash built into the dubbing rather than added as a separate strand.
Flies and the fish they're for
Brite Blend fits naturally into caddis larva and emerger style patterns fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters, where that buggy, slightly flashy body helps the fly show up without looking rigid. In wet flies and small streamers, it’s a good body dubbing choice for trout and smallmouth in moving water, and it scales up for steelhead and salmon flies where a bright, picked-out body can help in colder, higher flows. It also crosses over to saltwater bug-style flies for species like redfish on shallow flats, where a little built-in flash can help the pattern track as it moves.
How it compares
Compared to Ice Dub, both are synthetic flash dubbings, but Brite Blend is softer. Ice Dub is a bit better when you want very tight body winding.
