What it is

Hareline Brown Barred Rabbit Strips are rabbit fur cut in strips with the hide left on the back. In the water the fur breathes and swims with excellent motion, and the barring gives a subtle, natural look. On the hook it lays into a clean, tapered profile for tails and wings or it can be wrapped for a full, buggy body.

What to tie with it

Use it for streamer wings and tails by tying it in as a zonker strip, and for bodies by palmering the strip forward as a crosscut-style wrap. It also works well for crab and crayfish claws, nymph tails, and as a collar to add movement right behind the head. You can trim the fibers off the hide to blend into buggy dubbing when you want that same texture in a dubbed body.

Flies and the fish they're for

Zonker Minnows are a classic use for rabbit strips, fished as a swimming baitfish for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and for smallmouth in moving water. The same zonker-style build is also a staple streamer approach for aggressive lake fish that want a pulsing, alive profile on the retrieve.

How it compares

Compared with Black-Barred Rabbit Fur Strips, the black barring reads more standout, while the brown-barred look stays more subdued and natural.
