What it is
Hareline Bucktail Combo is a combo pack of fluorescent bucktail hair fibers. It’s natural hair with a little stiffness, so it holds a clean profile but still has natural movement in the water. On the hook it stacks and flares depending on thread pressure, and you can pick softer, finer fibers up near the tip for slimmer flies.
What to tie with it
Use it for streamer wings, collars, and tails, especially hairwing streamers and popper tails where you want shape without going limp. At the vise you’ll be stacking, spinning or flaring it for collars, and tying it in as a layered wing for slim baitfish profiles. Beyond streamers, bucktail also shows up as body hair in some dry flies, and it can be incorporated into nymphs and wet flies when you want a bit of taper and movement without bulk.
Flies and the fish they're for
This is core material for Clouser Minnows and Lefty’s Deceivers, both classic choices for smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and lakes, and also staples for stripers in coastal waters and big rivers. Bucktail Deceivers, Hollow Fleye, and Beast Fleye are all common striper patterns, and they also cross over well to bluefish and other saltwater predators when bait is the menu. Tied as a popper tail, it’s right at home on bass poppers for pond and bank fishing, where the hair breathes behind the splash and pause.
How it compares
Compared to Hareline Large Northern Bucktail, this isn’t a full tail and it comes as an assorted pack rather than a single, full-tail selection. Compared to the Hareline Bucktail Combo Pack, this version is the fluorescent assortment rather than the non-fluorescent mix.
