What it is
Hareline Chenille Medium is a core-wrapped mylar chenille that builds a full-bodied profile as you wrap it. It’s reflective and translucent in the water, with a flashy look that still holds up thanks to the durable mylar wrap.
What to tie with it
Wrap it as a fly body material on everything from nymphs and wet flies up through streamer bodies and bigger, brighter patterns for bass bugs. It’s also a common choice for steelhead fly bodies, estaz-style egg patterns, blob patterns, and plenty of saltwater patterns where you want a quick, bulky body with built-in flash.
Flies and the fish they're for
Russ Madden’s Circus Peanuts is a classic example, tied to fish for trout in stillwaters and tailwaters where bright, flashy attractor patterns get noticed. The same medium mylar chenille body approach also crosses over cleanly into Woolly Bugger and leech-style streamers for trout and smallmouth bass in rivers and lakes, and into Atlantic salmon patterns when you want a durable, visible body on a larger hook. In saltwater, it’s used in chenille-bodied streamers and baitfish-y patterns for species like redfish and striped bass when a little extra flash helps in off-colored water.
