What it is
Chicone’s Stealth Chain is a dull-finished bead chain eye material you tie in like bead chain eyes, but with a more muted look. It adds subtle weight up front, helps small flies ride hook point up, and gives the fly a slight jigging action with a softer landing than heavier eyes.
What to tie with it
Use it primarily for eyes on small to medium streamers and nymphs when you want just enough weight to turn the hook over without making the fly crash. It’s a straightforward tie-in at the nose of the fly, and it’s also an easy way to build in a subtle inverted presentation for skinny-water or pressured fish.
Flies and the fish they're for
You’ll see Stealth Chain on patterns like the Magnum Mantis and Chicone’s Brass Knuckles, where the eyes help the fly track hook point up and pulse with that little jig on the strip. Fished as small baitfish or shrimp/crab-style streamers, flies in this lane are common for warmwater fish like bass and panfish, and they also cross over well to inshore saltwater where a quieter entry and subtler weight matter around shallow reds, seatrout, and similar feeders.
How it compares
It’s a lighter, more subdued alternative to dumbbell eyes when you still want the fly to invert but don’t need a hard sink rate. Compared to standard Hareline Bead Chain Eyes and other glossy bead chain, the dull finish reads less “bright hardware” in the water.
