What it is
Chocklett’s Filler Flash is a flash chenille built on a core with pearlescent mylar fibers. In the water it gives a pearlescent, flashy glow that reads like baitfish shine without having to layer a bunch of loose flash. At the vise it handles cleanly and palms around the shank easily.
What to tie with it
Use it as a supporting “filler” material in articulated Game Changer-style flies to add bulk and glow through the profile. It also shines palmered for streamer bodies, wrapped up as a chunky popper body, and stacked forward to build bulk in hollow-tied fleyes and other big baitfish patterns. Because it’s palmerable, you can treat it like chenille and control density with your wrap spacing.
Flies and the fish they're for
You’ll see it in the Feather Game Changer, Crafty Game Changer, and Polar Game Changer, where it helps build the body and keeps that baitfish shimmer as the fly swims and articulates. Those Game Changer-style streamers are fished for trout in rivers and stillwaters, smallmouth in rivers, and also for bigger predators like pike and musky where a large, articulated baitfish profile matters. In saltwater, the same support-and-glow role translates well to big baitfish streamers for striped bass and other inshore predators when you’re building larger profiles that still need some light-catching life.
How it compares
Compared to Hareline Cactus Hackle, it comes in less variety, but the flash is straighter and it’s available in multiple widths, which helps when you want to control how much bulk you build per wrap.
