What it is

Chocklett’s Foam Skin is a foam-backed silicone skin tape with an adhesive side you stick down and a non-sticky foil side that faces out. On the hook it adds built-in float from the foam, and the foil outer face gives a lifelike sheen that reads as “real skin” in the water. Because of the foam layer it doesn’t stretch as much as some straight silicone skins.

What to tie with it

Use it as an outer skin cover over a body you’ve already built, or wrap and trim it to shape floating minnow bodies and other surface-floating elements. It’s a good choice when you want that realistic look without giving up buoyancy, especially on patterns where the back and sides are meant to look like a single continuous “skin” panel.

Flies and the fish they're for

It shows up right in Floating Gummy Minnows, which get fished as buoyant baitfish/hovering minnow imitations for bass in lakes and rivers and for redfish and snook when you need a floating profile in the salt. It’s also a natural fit on Crease Flies, a classic floating baitfish pattern used for stripers, bluefish, and false albacore in the surf and around bait, and it crosses over well to largemouth and smallmouth when you want a wake or surface baitfish look.

How it compares

Compared to Sili Skin it gives a similar finished look, but the foam backing makes it less stretchy. That same foam is the reason to grab it when you need more buoyancy than a standard silicone skin provides.
