What it is

Hareline Cinnamon Tip Turkey Tail Feathers are sections of turkey tail feather quills with a naturally mottled, barred look and a darker overall tone. The fibers and slips give you a very natural “buggy” impression on the hook, and the quill sections cut clean for shellbacks and wings.

What to tie with it

Use the fibers for nymph and wet-fly tails, nymph antennae, and for palmered bodies or body wraps when you want that barred segmentation to show through. Use slips from the feather for classic slip-wing work on dry flies, wet flies, and streamers, and cut pieces for wingcases and wing pads on nymphs; many tyers coat the feather with resin first to stiffen and protect the shellback.

Flies and the fish they're for

Hare’s Ear Nymph often gets a turkey tail wingcase and tail fibers, and it’s a staple for trout in rivers and tailwaters, swung or dead-drifted depending on depth and current. Muddler Minnow commonly uses turkey slips for the wing, and it’s fished as a baitfish or sculpin-style streamer for trout in rivers as well as for bass in streams and lakes.

How it compares

Compared with Hareline Mottled Peacock Wing Quill, this runs lighter and more mottled while filling the same “barred quill” jobs for wingcases, wings, and other slip-feather uses.
