What it is

Hareline Cliff’s Articulator Box is an articulated fly box built to carry flies with multiple hook points and long profiles without turning your box into a knot. It’s compact, lightweight, and durable, with secure retention that keeps big flies from shifting around in transit.

What to tie with it

At the bench it’s a staging tool as much as it is storage: you can park articulated streamers with the stinger hook set into the foam so the rear section stays straight and ready to fish. It also works for tube-fly setups by keeping the tube and the hook together, organized, and waiting, and it helps keep fly heads and trailing hooks from tangling with other flies.

Flies and the fish they're for

This box is built around the kinds of flies you throw for fish that like big meals: articulated streamers, large bug patterns, and baitfish imitations. That means trout on western rivers and tailwaters when you’re swinging or stripping big profiles, smallmouth in rivers and reservoirs on oversized baitfish flies, and stripers or other salt and brackish predators when you’re carrying long, multi-hook baitfish patterns on a trip. It’s also handy for tube-fly systems used for salmon and steelhead, where keeping the tube and hook paired up saves time on the water.

How it compares

Compared with bulkier fly boxes, it’s lighter and more portable while still keeping articulated flies secure and separated enough to prevent tangles. The foam layout is purpose-built for long flies and trailing hooks in a way standard boxes often aren’t.
