What it is

The Hareline Core C1120 is a heavy-wire, bronze curved nymph and scud hook with a curved shank and a small barb. That curve gives your fly a natural “C” profile on the hook, and the heavier wire adds weight for getting subsurface patterns down.

What to tie with it

Tie scuds and sowbugs by building a dubbed body over the curve and finishing with a tight shellback or rib to keep the segmentation clean. It’s also a good base for caddis larvae, cranefly larvae, midges, Czech nymphs, emergers, and deeper-fished soft hackles where you want a curved silhouette and a little extra sink from the hook itself.

Flies and the fish they're for

This style of curved scud and larva hook is the go-to platform for scuds and sowbugs for trout, especially in tailwaters and spring creeks where those crustaceans are a big part of the diet. It’s also a strong fit for curved caddis larva and Czech nymph style patterns for trout in faster pocket water and riffles, and for midge and small larva patterns when trout are feeding subsurface in rivers and stillwaters.

How it compares

Compared to Ahrex FW540 Curved Nymph Hooks in black nickel, the Core C1120 is bronze and runs in sizes 6–16 rather than 6–24, so it doesn’t reach as small on the midge end. Both are in the same curved nymph/scud lane, but the finish and size range are the practical differences called out here.
