What it is

Hareline Core C1280 Perfect Streamer is a long-shank streamer and nymph hook with a black nickel finish. It has a chemically sharpened point and a small barb, built to pin fish cleanly while still being easy to dress for full-bodied patterns.

What to tie with it

Use it for large mayfly nymphs and most nymph patterns where you want extra shank length for bodies, ribs, and bigger thoraxes. On the streamer side it’s a natural fit for chunky streamers and full-bodied ties like Wooly Buggers, where you’re palmering hackle, building a thicker chenille or dubbing body, and still want room for a proper tail and head.

Flies and the fish they're for

Wooly Buggers tied on this hook cover a lot of water: trout in rivers and stillwaters, smallmouth in creeks and rivers, and even stocker rainbows in ponds when you need a bigger profile. This hook also shows up in quick baitfish streamers like an Emerald Shiner-style pattern, which is commonly fished for Great Lakes trout and steelhead where those forage fish are a staple. If you’re tying articulated streamers, this kind of streamer-specific hook is often chosen for the front and/or rear sections when you want a stout, reliable foundation for a big profile.

How it compares

Compared with the Tiemco TMC 5262, this hook covers a wider size range. The TMC 5262 is heavier wire and longer shank, which typically pushes flies to sink faster than the same pattern tied on the C1280.
