What it is
Hareline’s Core C1560 is a nymph and wet fly hook built on heavy wire with a long shank. It has a down-eye, a bronze finish, a chemically sharpened point, and a small barb, so it seats securely and holds up when you lean on it. The 2x–3x long proportions give you extra room for longer profiles without having to crowd materials at the head.
What to tie with it
Use it when you want to build an extended-looking body directly on the shank: underbodies, ribbing, and segmented nymph abdomens lay out cleanly on this length. It’s a natural fit for stonefly and dragonfly nymph shapes, and it also works well for long-bodied wet flies and small streamer-style patterns where you need a durable hook and a bit more shank to work with.
Flies and the fish they're for
This is the kind of hook you reach for when you’re tying stonefly nymph patterns for trout in freestone rivers and tailwaters, or dragonfly nymph patterns for stillwater trout, bass, and panfish around weed edges. In longer-bodied nymph sizes it’s also right at home for river smallmouth bass nymphing where you want a tough hook that won’t flex out. For long-bodied streamer patterns, that heavy wire and long shank translate well to flies fished for trout and smallmouth in current, and for largemouth around cover.
How it compares
It lines up closely with the Daiichi 1717 in being a long-shank, down-eye, strong-wire nymph hook. The key difference is size range: the 1717 runs to larger sizes (down to size 2), while the C1560 goes much smaller (down to size 24), and the 1717 bottoms out at 18.
