What it is
Hareline Core C1710 Nymph is an all-purpose nymph hook built with a wide gap for quick penetration and a strong hold once a fish is pinned. It has a down-eye, a similar bend to the Ahrex FW560 Traditional Nymph Hook, and a small barb.
What to tie with it
This hook is sized and shaped for general nymph work, especially stonefly nymphs, cased caddis nymphs, mayfly nymphs, and attractor or searching patterns. The wide gap gives you room for bulkier dubbed bodies, ribbing, and heavier thorax builds without crowding the hook point.
Flies and the fish they're for
Use it for staple mayfly and searching nymphs like the Pheasant Tail Nymph and Hare’s Ear Nymph for trout in rivers and tailwaters. It also fits bigger stonefly-style nymphs that get fished for trout in faster freestone water, and it crosses over well to damselfly nymph-style patterns for bluegills and other panfish in lakes and ponds.
How it compares
Compared with the Ahrex FW560 Traditional Nymph Hook, the C1710 and FW560 share a similar bend, a down-eye, and a small barb, but the FW560 tops out at a smaller maximum size. The C1710 is the better pick when you want to tie larger nymphs on a wide-gap platform.
