What it is
Hareline Crab Bits are pre-cut crab-leg and claw pieces you tie into saltwater crab imitations. They’re built to look realistic in the water and kick with lifelike movement when the fly lands, strips, or creeps along the bottom. The material itself isn’t specified, but the construction is meant to hold up to fishing.
What to tie with it
Use them as legs and claws on crab patterns by tying them in along the sides of the hook shank, then locking them down with firm wraps and thread control so they splay and track correctly. They also work well when you’re building a full crab profile around a carapace, because the bits give you the “busy” edge detail without needing to cut your own parts. Flies and the fish they're for
These are a natural fit for Copperhead crabs, Strong Arm crabs, and Raghead crabs, where the legs and claws are a big part of the silhouette. Fished on sandy or turtlegrass flats, those crab patterns are standard forage imitations for permit and redfish, and they’ll also get eaten by bonefish when crabs are on the menu. Work them slow and close to the bottom, because that’s where the lifelike movement and realistic look of the legs and claws actually pays off.
