What it is

Hareline Dragon Eyes are 3D fly-tying eyes with an adhesive backing, built to stick in place before you lock them down with resin or a head coating. They add a pronounced, three-dimensional eye profile on the hook and hold up well on flies that get chewed.

What to tie with it

Use them anywhere you want a clean set of eyes without fussing with cement first: on resin heads, clipped-and-shaped heads, and foam poppers. They’re a natural fit for streamers and modern articulated builds like Game Changers, and they also work well on rodent patterns where the eye needs to stay put through hard eats.

Flies and the fish they're for

Game Changers commonly get finished with Dragon Eyes, and that fly is fished for aggressive predators like largemouth and smallmouth bass in lakes and rivers, and for stripers in rivers and reservoirs. On foam poppers and other topwater bugs, these eyes are at home on bass flies in warmwater ponds and river banks, where a bold eye can help sell the profile. On rodent patterns, they’re used for big browns and other predatory trout in rivers, and they also show up on larger warmwater and inshore-style “mouse” bites where fish track a surface silhouette.

How it compares

Compared to Fish-Skull Living Eyes, Dragon Eyes do not have an elliptical pupil, while Living Eyes have a more pronounced elliptical pupil. If you’re matching that specific pupil shape, that’s the main visual difference between the two.
