What it is
Hareline Dura Skin is an ultra-thin vinyl sheet used as a synthetic “skin” on flies. It’s flexible and resilient, so it bends around curves without cracking, and it’s durable enough to stand up to teeth and rocks. The sheet is translucent and has a dual-sided surface, which helps it read as a natural shell or casing once it’s on the hook.
What to tie with it
Use it for wing cases and shellbacks on nymphs, and for shrimp or scud shells where you want a thin, clean profile. Most tyers cut strips or taper shapes, lay it over a dubbed or wrapped body, and tie it down at the thorax or tail, then pull it forward and secure it to form the casing. It also works wrapped or layered for smooth nymph bodies and simple wings where a thin synthetic sheet makes sense.
