What it is
Hareline Estaz Grande is a large UV Estaz chenille made from Mylar. On the hook it builds a full, translucent, flowing body with a frilled motion and a lifelike shine when it moves in the water.
What to tie with it
Wrap it up the hook shank for fast, bulky bodies on streamers, and it also works as the main body material on poppers. Tied as a short section and secured at both ends, it’s a standard way to make bright egg-style patterns for steelhead.
Flies and the fish they're for
Bob’s Banger uses Estaz Grande for a big, flashy body on a popper-style bass fly, and it crosses over well to other warmwater fish that eat surface bugs. Estaz Egg is a go-to for steelhead, and it’s also fished for salmon where egg patterns are part of the program in rivers. Dirty Harry Crab uses Estaz Grande in a saltwater crab profile, a common choice when you’re targeting flats species that key on crabs.
How it compares
Compared with Polar chenille, Estaz Grande has slightly shorter fibers.
