What it is

Hareline Fish Skull Living Eyes are 3D fly-tying eyes built to give a baitfish-style head a more lifelike look. The pupil is a teardrop shape, which helps the eye read as “alive” when it’s set into a streamer head or stuck onto a flat-sided baitfish profile.

What to tie with it

These are made for streamer work: stick-on eyes for baitfish imitations, or for updating classic patterns that fish better with a clear target point. Use them on the sides of the head after you’ve shaped the front of the fly, then lock them in with your normal head finish so they stay put.

Flies and the fish they're for

They show up naturally on baitfish patterns like the EP Baitfish, which gets fished for everything from trout in rivers and stillwaters to striped bass and other predators wherever they’re keyed on small forage. On bigger-profile streamers like the Dirty Hippie, they’re right at home for warmwater and saltwater predators such as largemouth, pike, and even tarpon in coastal water. They also work well on classic trout and bass streamers like the Zonker and Muddler Minnow, where adding eyes helps sell the “minnow” look in moving water and lakes.

How it compares

Compared to Hareline 3D Holographic Eyes, the Living Eyes use a teardrop-shaped pupil rather than a round pupil, leaning more toward replicating a natural eye instead of a general baitfish look.
