What it is
Hareline Flashabou Accent is a fly-tying flash accent fiber made from tightly twisted Flashabou strands. The twist gives you a highly reflective, shimmering fiber that also kicks and waves in the water for extra movement. It holds up well when fished and keeps its flash after a lot of time in the water.
What to tie with it
Use it as a little “hot spot” mixed into wings and tails, or as a few strands laid along the side of a fly for a lateral flash line. It also works as a body accent by ribbing it, wrapping it as a thin tinsel, or counter-wrapping over dubbing to add shimmer without changing the profile much. On streamers it’s an easy add-in to bucktail, synthetic, or feather wings, and some tyers also treat it like a mylar tinsel replacement when they want more pop.
Flies and the fish they're for
Flash is a common trigger on baitfish and attractor patterns, so this fits naturally into streamer flies for species that chase minnows. Tie it into wings and tails for smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and lakes, and for trout in tailwaters when you’re fishing sculpin or minnow-style streamers. The same flash accent shows up in saltwater baitfish patterns for redfish on the flats and striped bass in bays and surf when you want a little extra visibility and movement.
How it compares
Compared with original Flashabou, the tightly twisted strands give a stronger optical effect and a slightly more “alive” look in the water while still fishing as a simple flash accent.
