What it is

Hareline Flashabou Magnum is a heavier, holographic Flashabou tinsel strand used to add flash to flies. It throws a lot of light with a 3D holographic effect, but it stays lightweight in the dressing. It’s built to hold up, so it keeps fishing after teeth, rocks, and repeated casting.

What to tie with it

Use it as an accent mixed into streamer wings, bucktail wings, or synthetic baitfish profiles, or stack it as a full flash wing when you want a loud silhouette. You can tie it in as lateral lines, overwing topping, tail flash, or as a “veiling” layer over bulkier materials to keep the fly looking alive without adding weight. It’s also a quick way to dress up conventional lures or bait-style patterns when you want extra attraction.

Flies and the fish they're for

Flashabou Magnum shows up in simple Flashabou-style streamers and in saltwater baitfish patterns where flash is doing a lot of the work, and those flies are routinely fished for pike, musky, and bass in lakes and rivers. In the salt, the same kind of flashy baitfish profile is a standard tool for species like striped bass, bluefish, and false albacore when they’re keyed on small bait. It’s also right at home as the sparkle mixed into bucktail baitfish flies that get fished for everything from smallmouth to inshore saltwater fish over grass flats and along marsh edges.
