What it is
Hareline Foam Amadou Dryer is a fly-drying pad tool made from natural amadou, the tinder fungus. It’s soft and highly absorbent, so it pulls water out of a fly without chemicals. Think of it as a little sponge pad you press the fly into at the river to get it fishing again.
What to tie with it
You don’t tie it into flies; you use it at the bench or on the water to dry them. Press a waterlogged dry or a delicate CDC pattern into the pad to remove moisture without roughing up the materials. It’s especially handy when you want to dry the fly rather than add more liquid floatant.
Flies and the fish they're for
This gets used constantly with small midge dry imitations, the kind you’re throwing to selective trout on calm tailwaters and spring creeks. It’s also a go-to tool for CDC dry patterns fished to trout and grayling, where keeping CDC fibers from getting waterlogged matters for both float and footprint. Any time you’re drying delicate dries between drifts—especially on technical trout water—amadou is the quick reset.
