What it is

Hareline Gritty Brass Beads are textured brass fly-tying beads with a gritty finish. They add weight up front and have a countersunk hole so they seat cleanly on the hook and build a tidy bead head.

What to tie with it

Use them for bead heads on nymphs, larva patterns, and wet flies when you want the fly to get down without adding wraps of lead or extra bulk. Slide the bead on first, tie in behind it, then snug it to the eye so it acts as both weight and a clean head/shoulder for your thorax materials.

Flies and the fish they're for

These beads are a natural fit for beadhead nymphs and beadhead larva patterns fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters, where getting to the feeding lane matters. They’re also right at home on wet flies swung or drifted for trout and panfish in streams and lakes, where a little extra front weight helps the fly track deeper and more steadily.
