What it is
Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Dub is a dubbing blend made from hare’s mask dubbing with its natural guard hairs, mixed with Antron. It dubs spiky and buggy with a slight sparkle and an attractive sheen, and it’s easy to apply without turning into a smooth, “too-clean” noodle on the thread.
What to tie with it
Use it for bodies on nymphs, wet flies, and streamer patterns when you want a rough, alive-looking profile. You can dub it straight on the thread for quick tapered bodies, or build a dubbing loop and spin a rope so you can control density on smaller hooks and keep those short, spiky fibers kicking out. It also works well when you’re planning a rib over the top, since the guard hairs still show through for that rough texture.
Flies and the fish they're for
This is classic Hare’s Ear-style body dubbing for general mayfly nymph and wet-fly imitations that get fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters. It’s also at home in buggy searching nymphs for trout and panfish in creeks and lakes when you want that rough, guard-hair silhouette instead of a smooth body. In a dubbing loop, you can push it toward a more “bristly” streamer body for trout and smallmouth where a little extra movement and sheen helps.
How it compares
Compared with Hareline’s Dubbin, it’s a similar consistency but without the Antron flash, which can make Dubbin a better choice in clear water or when fish are pressured.
