Hareline High Viz Ant Bodies are preformed ant bodies made from foam. The foam is high floating and durable, and the shapes are easy to see on the water. You can trim them to fine-tune the profile once they’re on the hook.

What to tie with it

Use them as the body on ant dry flies and other terrestrial patterns where you want a quick, consistent silhouette. Typical bench work is simply tying the body in on top of the shank, securing it at the segments, and then trimming to shape before you finish the fly. They pair naturally with legs, a small hackle, and a simple thread head depending on the pattern you’re building.

These bodies are built for high-floating ant patterns, which are classic trout flies on streams and small rivers when terrestrials are active, especially from spring through fall. Fish them as a dry along banks, under overhanging vegetation, and in foam lines where real ants get knocked in. They’re also a practical choice anytime you want a dry fly you can track easily while targeting rising trout in broken water.

How it compares

Compared to dubbing an ant body, these are faster and easier because the shape is already formed. They’re also quicker and more straightforward than cutting your own bodies from fly foam.
