What it is

Hareline HMH Poly Tubes are premium-grade polymer tubes made for tying tube flies. They’re durable and flexible, resist UV and cracking or splitting, and they hold their shape in cold temperatures. In the water they act as the fly’s body platform, letting the dressing move freely and helping the fly track cleanly on a leader-threaded tube rig.

What to tie with it

Use them to build tube fly bodies, then dress the tube with your normal materials the same way you would on a hook: stack and flare hair, palmer hackle, tie in wings, and build shoulders and heads against a cone or bead. Tie them on tapered tube mandrels or tapered needles so the tube locks in place and the finished fly doesn’t want to rotate. HMH Micro Tubing can be nested inside the larger poly tubes to fit smaller cones or beads and keep the front end looking clean.

Flies and the fish they're for

Marabou Spey style tube flies are a classic use here, tied on plastic tubes and often finished with a cone or bead at the front; fished on a tube rig they’re a go-to for steelhead and salmon in swinging water, and they also cross over well to trout and smallmouth when you want a long, mobile profile. Because the hook rides separately behind the tube, this setup is also commonly chosen anywhere teeth are hard on flies, helping reduce damage when fish clamp down. Tube versions of spey-style profiles are also a natural fit for saltwater predator fishing where long, flowing movement matters and you want the fly body to stay intact.
