What it is

Hareline Hot Tungsten Beads are tungsten fly-tying beads meant to add serious, fast-sinking weight right at the front of the fly. They have a bright, durable finish and a countersunk hole so they seat cleanly and give you a tidy head shape on the hook.

What to tie with it

Use them when you want quick weight and a “hot” focal point at the head or thorax. They fit naturally as a nymph head, and they also work up front on streamer heads, leech patterns, and crustacean patterns when you want the fly to drop and stay down.

Flies and the fish they're for

These beads show up most often on Euro nymphs tied to get down fast in current for trout in rivers and tailwaters. On a Tungsten Bead Blowtorch Jig, the bead is the heavy, attention-getting head that helps the fly sink quickly and get seen while tight-line nymphing for trout. They’re also a common choice on Perdigon-style, fast-sinking nymphs for trout when you need to reach the strike zone quickly in deeper runs.

How it compares

Compared to regular tungsten beads, you’re still getting the same tungsten weight and quick-sinking behavior, just with the bright “hot” finish and the countersunk hole. Versus Hareline Dazzle Brass Beads, you can get a similar bright look, but brass sinks slower than tungsten.
