What it is

Hareline Kiley’s Damzel Tails are pre-made tails sized and shaped to imitate the three-lobed tail of a damselfly nymph. They’re flexible and responsive in the water, but they’re also durable and shape-retaining so the tail keeps its profile after fish and repeated casts.

What to tie with it

Use them as nymph tails, especially on stillwater damselfly patterns where that tail silhouette matters. At the bench you’ll tie them in by the rubbery tag end on top of the shank and bind down securely so they don’t roll or spin. They’re a quick way to get a clean, consistent tail without stacking fibers or fighting flimsy materials.

Flies and the fish they're for

These are commonly used on Balanced Damzel Nymph-style flies and other damselfly nymph imitations. Fish those for bluegill and other panfish around weeds and banks on ponds and lakes, and they’re also a standard stillwater trout food when damsels are active. The durable, shape-holding tail helps the fly keep its damselfly profile after getting chewed up.
