What it is

Kiley’s Exo Skin is a stretchy fly-tying skin you cut from a sheet and wrap or shape onto the hook. It’s semi-transparent in the water and it moves with the current, so bodies look alive instead of rigid. The material is tear-resistant, abrasion-resistant, and built to hold up fish after fish.

What to tie with it

Use it for bodies on nymphs, scuds, shrimp, and streamers by cutting it into strips and wrapping it like nymph skin, or by cutting specific shapes and laying them over a dubbed or built-up core. Because it stretches, you can pull it tight for a slim profile or overlap it for more bulk, then lock it down with thread and finish with your preferred coating if you want extra smoothness.

Cut as a shrimp or scud body, it fits right into the kinds of flats and mangrove patterns people fish for redfish, bonefish, and permit, where a durable, abrasion-resistant body matters around shell and structure. Wrapped as a nymph-style body, it makes sense for trout nymph fishing in rivers and tailwaters where a semi-transparent, buggy body gets eaten all day. Used as a streamer body material, it’s at home on baitfish-style patterns for smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and lakes, and for stripers where you want movement without the body shredding quickly.
