What it is

Hareline Kona BC2 is a barbless, curved-shank hook built for nymph, emerger, and shrimp/scud-style patterns. It’s high-carbon forged steel with a black-nickel finish, a straight eye, and a 2x wide gap that gives you room for bulkier bodies without crowding the point.

What to tie with it

Use it for curved-body flies where you want that natural bend: sowbugs and scuds, caddis and midge pupae, cranefly larvae, and surface-film emergers. The straight eye makes it easy to run clean thread and materials up into a neat head, and the wide gap helps when you’re building thicker dubbed bodies, shellbacks, or segmented ribbing.

Flies and the fish they're for

This hook is a natural fit for a Zebra Midge, which is a go-to trout fly on tailwaters and spring creeks when fish are keyed on midges in the drift. The same curved profile also matches the shape you want for scud and sowbug patterns that trout eat year-round in rivers and stillwaters, especially where there’s lots of aquatic vegetation or mud-bottom flats. Tie it as a curved emerger and it covers those moments when trout are feeding right in the surface film during caddis and midge hatches.

How it compares

Compared with the Kona BC1 Barbless Curved Nymph Scud Pupa Hook, the BC2 has a straight eye and a 2x wide gap. The BC1 runs smaller sizes (down to 20), while the BC2 covers sizes 8–18.
