What it is
Hareline’s Kona BC4 is a barbless, forged high-carbon steel hook with a sharp point, a straight eye, and a curved shank built around a unique bend. It’s a 2x wide-gap style, so it gives you more bite and room under the hook point than a standard curved Klink-style hook.
What to tie with it
Use it for Klinkhammer-style parachute dries where you want the abdomen to hang down and the thorax/hackle to sit in the surface film. It also fits curved-shank nymphs, emergers, and larva patterns, including big stonefly nymphs and cranefly larvae, where that bend helps you shape a natural-looking profile without fighting the materials.
Flies and the fish they're for
The go-to pattern here is the Klinkhammer, a trout fly fished on rivers and spring creeks when fish are keying on emergers sitting half-in and half-out of the film. The BC4’s wide gap helps on those eats where a fish just nips the top of the fly, and the curved shank lets you keep the “butt down, thorax up” posture that makes a Klinkhammer work.
How it compares
Compared to a Daiichi 1167 Klinkhammer hook, the BC4 has a wider gap for more holding power. The 1167’s smaller gap tends to let the fly body ride higher in the surface film.
