What it is

The Hareline Kona BGC Big Game Carnivore is a big-game fly-tying hook built from high-carbon steel with a black nickel finish. It’s ultra-sharp, corrosion-resistant, and made with 2X strength and a wide-gap, short-shank profile that leaves room for bulky materials without crowding the point.

What to tie with it

Use it for large streamers and predator patterns where you’re stacking bucktail, synthetics, and big heads and still need clean hooking space. It’s a strong choice for saltwater patterns and big-game freshwater flies, and it also fits well into articulated builds where you want a stout, wide-gap “front” hook behind shanks.

Flies and the fish they're for

This hook shows up in big articulated “Game Changer” style builds, including bucktail Game Changers, which are commonly fished for pike and musky in lakes and rivers, and also for saltwater predators where large baitfish profiles matter. That wide gap and short shank are aimed at big predator eats and heavy materials, which is the same territory as other 6–9" class predator flies thrown for fish like peacock bass and golden dorado in warmwater rivers and lagoons, as well as tigerfish in African river systems.
