What it is
The Kona BGH Big Game Hunter is a short-shank streamer hook built from forged high-carbon steel with a black-nickel finish. It has a wide gap, a barbed, ultra-sharp point, and it’s made at 2X strength with corrosion resistance for hard-fished, heavy flies.
What to tie with it
This is a go-to shape when you want a compact hook that still leaves you plenty of bite for bulky materials, so it fits robust streamers and big game patterns well. It also plays nicely with articulated shanks, where you’re using it as the rear hook on articulated streamers, and it’s commonly used as a trailer hook setup as well.
Flies and the fish they're for
Game Changer patterns are a natural fit on this hook, especially in articulated builds where you want a short shank and wide gap under a moving, baitfish-style profile; those flies get fished for everything from largemouth and smallmouth bass in lakes and rivers to striped bass and other predators that key on bait. In heavier “big game” versions, the same style of baitfish streamer gets tied and fished for tarpon in coastal saltwater, where strength and corrosion resistance matter and the wide gap helps on larger profiles.
