Hareline Kona Bgh Big Game Hunter Hooks 8 Pack

What it is

The Kona BGH Big Game Hunter is a short-shank streamer hook built from forged high-carbon steel with a black-nickel finish. It’s a wide-gap, barbed hook with an ultra-sharp point, made in a 2X strength wire for holding up to hard pulls and big materials. The finish is corrosion resistant, which matters when you’re bouncing between freshwater and salt.

What to tie with it

Use it anywhere you want a compact shank but plenty of bite: big baitfish heads, stacked fibers, bulky collars, and articulated builds. It’s a natural fit for Game Changer-style sections and other articulated streamer patterns, and it pairs well with articulated shanks when you want more length and movement without going to a long-shank hook. Common tying moves on this hook include building a thread dam for support, reverse ties and bullet ties to control the profile, and finishing with a resin head; high tie/low tie placement helps keep the fly tracking straight.

Flies and the fish they're for

Game Changer patterns are the obvious match here, and they get tied for anything that hunts larger bait, from largemouth and smallmouth in rivers and lakes to stripers. In saltwater, this hook style and strength also translate well to tarpon flies and other big baitfish patterns where you need a wide gap and a short shank to keep hookups solid. If you’re building robust streamers meant to be dragged through cover or eaten by heavy fish, this hook is designed for that kind of work.
