Size: #10

What it is

This is a standard-length, barbless nymph hook built from forged high-carbon steel with a black nickel finish. It’s a 1x strong wire with a sharp point, meant to penetrate easily and then stay put with good holding power. The shape is a straightforward nymph profile, so it sits and fishes like the classic nymph hooks most of us learned on.

What to tie with it

Use it anywhere you want a clean, “normal” nymph silhouette: thread bodies, dubbed bodies, pheasant tail and quill wraps, ribbing, and bead heads all fit naturally on this shank length. It’s right at home for classic and realistic nymph patterns, including stonefly, mayfly, caddis, and even larger midge-style nymphs. Being barbless, it also makes sense for comp-style rigs and any fishery where quick releases matter.

Flies and the fish they're for

A Hare’s Ear on this hook is a staple searching nymph for trout in rivers and tailwaters, and it also gets used in stillwaters when fish are cruising nymphs. A Pheasant Tail tied here is a go-to mayfly nymph imitation for trout in freestones and spring creeks, and it’s a bread-and-butter pattern under an indicator or on a tight-line setup. Both patterns are the kind of “tie a bunch in different sizes” flies that cover a lot of water and a lot of trout days.

How it compares

It lines up closely with the Ahrex FW561 Barbless Nymph Hook in finish and general sizing, since both are barbless and black nickel in similar sizes. The main practical difference called out is pack count: 30 hooks here versus 24 in the Ahrex pack.
